Dr. Maksim Karev earned his PhD in Geometry and Topology from Saint Petersburg State University in 2009 under the guidance of Professor Sergei Duzhin. From 2011 to 2013, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Professor Grigory Mikhalkin at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Between 2013 and 2022, he worked at the Saint Petersburg branch of the V. A. Steklov Institute of Mathematics in the laboratory headed by Professor Anatoly Vershik, while also holding a position in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Saint Petersburg State University from 2018 to 2022. Since 2022, he has been a visiting professor at GTIIT. His research focuses on Hurwitz theory and the combinatorics of finite-type invariants.
