GTIIT Science Education and Service Initiative

PostTime:6/5/2026

"Will you come back to teach us next semester? We really want to see you again!" At the Longteng Campus of Changxia Primary School, the student volunteers from Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) were deeply moved by the children's pure smiles and longing for knowledge.

This moment captures the essence of GTIIT's Science Education and Service Initiative. Under the guidance of the Shantou Municipal Bureau of Education and the Jinping District Bureau of Education, the Student Affairs Department of GTIIT officially launched this program. It was initiated by Prof. Eli Aljadeff, Vice Chancellor of GTIIT, and draws on the success of Perach Program, a renowned educational support project from Israel. It brings university students into primary and secondary schools to deliver science outreach, creating a meaningful channel through which higher education resources give back to basic education. Drawing on its strengths as an international science and engineering university, GTIIT has adapted this model to the local context in Shantou, designing a science curriculum tailored for young students and embedding hands-on, lab-based thinking into classroom learning.

Recently, Prof. Eli Aljadeff, Vice Chancellor of GTIIT, together with Lin En (Project Advisor from the Student Affairs Department) and student representative Chen Changyang (Project Coordinator), visited the Longteng Campus of Changxia Primary School. They held a symposium and plaque unveiling ceremony for the Science Education and Service Initiative, marking the start of a long-term collaboration between the two schools. During the symposium, Prof. Eli Aljadeff engaged in a lively exchange with Principal Wang Ensheng and Vice Principal Wen Yingzhi on topics such as the current state of holistic education, strategic planning for science education, and the integration of international educational resources. Together, they agreed on a sustainable model for future cooperation.

The seeds of science planted in the classroom have begun to bear fruit. This year, a GTIIT student team supported Liantang Middle School in a seven-week hands-on lab instruction program, helping eighth graders excel in their biology lab exam and ninth graders in their physics lab exam for the high school entrance examination. The school saw a significant increase in the number of students scoring full marks. A representative from Liantang Middle School shared, "None of this would have been possible without the strong support of GTIIT faculty and students. You went through so much to make this happen. Thank you for bringing such amazing educational resources to our students."

Student volunteer Tan Zhenyuan said: "I didn't truly get it until I stood at the front of the classroom. This project isn't just about us teaching them — it's a two-way healing. The children's pure enthusiasm reawakened some parts of our souls that had been taken up by phones and silence. We're not just lighting up their world — they're helping us find that passionate, fully alive version of ourselves again."

Since launching in 2025, this program has reached seven primary and secondary schools, delivering over 50 teaching sessions to more than 1,000 students. Student-led interactive sessions on AI, new energy, and healthcare bring science to life, helping the wonder of science take root in children's hearts.
