June marks the 25th National Work Safety Month in China. To further improve the safety awareness and emergency response capabilities of all teachers and students, the EHS office of Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) launched the Work Safety Month launching ceremony at the North Campus Research Building on June 8.
Lin Danming, Secretary of the Party Committee of GTIIT, delivered a speech at the ceremony. He summarized the key points of safety management by proactively preventing, identifying risks, and eliminating hidden dangers. He stated that Safety Month is an annual campaign at GTIIT, but safety work goes far beyond this month — lab safety must be the top priority.
Rami Horesh, Pro-vice Chancellor and Director General of GTIIT, said that GTIIT organizes comprehensive safety inspections and laboratory self-inspections every year to identify and rectify potential hazards in a timely manner. He encouraged all faculty, staff and students to take this Safety Month as an opportunity to truly put safety into practice.
University leaders presented the 2025 Safe Laboratory medals to award-winning laboratory representatives.
At the ceremony, university leaders, student and faculty representatives wrote safety pledges on wooden tags and hung them on the "Safety Wish Tree" to keep safety responsibilities firmly in mind. An online safety knowledge quiz was also set up on site. Participants actively engaged in the interactive session to deepen their understanding of safety concepts.
Samuel Xu, Officer from GTIIT EHS, stated that centering on the theme "Everyone prioritizes safety, everyone responds to emergencies — identify and rectify potential risks", GTIIT will carry out comprehensive safety inspections and closed-loop rectification of hidden dangers. He called on all faculty and students to actively identify and report hazards, master emergency response skills proficiently, and guard the campus safety line from their respective posts.
A safety poster competition was newly added this year. Open to all faculty, staff and students, the competition aims to popularize safety knowledge through creative works and build a strong safety atmosphere. The activity received enthusiastic responses from the university community. After rigorous evaluation, 1 first prize, 5 second prizes and 10 third prizes were awarded.
